Flooding in southern China has resulted in a significant loss of life. A total of 39 people have died due to heavy rainfall from a tropical storm. The majority of these deaths occurred in Hengzhou, where a reservoir dam partially collapsed, causing widespread damage.

The flooding was caused by Tropical Storm Maysak, which brought record rainfall to the Guangxi region. The storm led to reservoirs being breached and people being stranded in homes and buildings. The death toll had previously been reported as six, but has since increased.
